This 11th century Benedictine monastery was rebuilt in the 17th and 18th centuries and was also the subject of more recent works in the 20th century, during which it was converted into a hotel. This imposing building with unique architecture, built right on the banks of the Douro River, was even classified as a Monument of Public Interest in 2013 and has a vast and valuable collection of furniture and various works of art, which have been duly inventoried and catalogued. It has been called several things, but the one by which it is best known is the 'Convento de Alpendurada'.
